Favorite Design & Craft Books

My grandma loved to give me hand-me-down craft supplies and books, and my mom has always had quite a large sewing/craft/design/decorating book library.  This helped start my own collection of DIY books pretty early in life.  College really built up my bookshelves, but all the ones I didn't like I sold back after the classes were over.  Here are my current and perennial favorites:

These are my favorites for inspiration and project ideas: Fifty Dresses That Changed the World, Water Paper Paint: Exploring Creativity with Watercolor and Mixed Media, A Beautiful Mess Photo Idea Book, How to Set up & Run a Fashion Label 2nd edition (mine is 1st edition), and Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers.

As far as sketching, sewing, and creating clothing goes, these are the most helpful: Apparel Making in Fashion Design, Sewing Activewear (Singer Sewing Reference Library), Classic Tailoring Techniques: A Construction Guide for Women's Wear, H.Joseph-Armstrong's Draping for Apparel Design, 9 Heads: A Guide to Drawing Fashion 4th Edition and (mine is third edition).

I haven't gotten to dive to far into this one yet since it just arrived, but my amazing friends/mentors Elsie and Emma just released this book.  I'm so proud of them for writing 2 books including A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home.  ♥ Mallory

Sometimes you just have to dress up even if you're just staying home, right?  Well, on Mondays and Tuesdays I dedicate my whole day to designing, running Shop Mallory (well, Mallory LLC in general), and doing things for this here blog.  On most days my mom comes to our studio in my home so I usually just throw on shorts or jeans and a t-shirt for these days.  I mean I work with my mom in my home, how lucky & amazing is that?!  There is absolutely no need to dress up most days, but sometimes I just gotta do it.

Today, to fulfill this urge to not wear jean shorts and a t-shirt I put on this guitar dress from my Nashville trip with Brian.  I bought it at a beautiful store, Pangaea.  I simply paired it with a bracelet from the Gap Clearance Outlet and Converse Chuck Taylor Shoreline Sneaker.  These are the best Chucks!  They slip-on with elastic under the tongue and around the heel.  I love that there's a loop on the heel to slip them on easier! ♥ Mallory
