Outfit: Mod Jacket

A few weeks ago I asked Brian to photograph my tweed coat because it was feeling neglected after I posted about my red vintage one.  I really love the mod vibe it has & it's a nice jacket for layering, not as a bulky piece of outerwear.  I have to also talk about how amazing this collar is.  It lays flat, but if you button it it makes a PERFECT turtleneck for those windy days!

I paired this Guess coat from Macy's with:
black skinny jeans- Pac Sun (a few years ago)
classic white chucks
heart rings- big matches Madison's from Hobby Lobby, & small from Minty Fresh Fusions
pin- came with a shirt Brian got from Vital
Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal bag- of course.

This last picture isn't in focus because I was descending the hill.  I still like it, because sometimes mistakes are the biggest wins.

Tuesday Tunes- Mike Mains & the Branches

Mike Mains & the Branches are an indie/pop band based out of Gainesville, TX.  Although I use indie/pop as their genre, they are able to mix in so many other styles.  There are two reasons I love this band, the first is my ability to relate to their Christian influenced lyrics.  They tend to go hand in hand with the ups and downs that happen with anyone's beliefs.  Second is the style of their drummer.  He really knew how to stand out on their 2010 album, Home.  He always knows the style to adopt, and being in a diverse band like Mike Mains & the Branches, being an adaptable musician really pays off.

Their not a band you can judge after just one song.  Please give Home a listen all the way through before you make a decision on their sound.  Hopefully you'll be able to find as many enjoyable things in it as I do.

CFDA- Light at the End

I finally only have two more days worth of work on my CFDA project.  I'm so close!!!

Lust List 13- Spring Must Haves

Spring is not quite here yet but I get spring fever around January 1st every year.  I think a big part of the problem is that I LOVE color and winter just seems so color devoid.  Here are some of my must haves for this upcoming spring season and examples of ones I'd love to have!

1. Some cateye sunglasses: Marc By Marc Jacobs Sunglasses
2. A colorful necklace- by Xau Xau
3. High waisted jean shorts- vintage ones from Mama Hawk Finery
4. A simple tank top with nice details- Coral on Me top from ModCloth
5. A toy camera to capture those beautiful spring memories- 35mm Gretchen Bleiler Holga
6. A big bag for all your spring errands- Belar Backpack by Sabrina Tach
7. Versatile sandals- Archer by Dolce Vita

I cannot wait to wear shorts (without tights) again!  Bring it on Spring!

Tuesday Tunes- Destry

Destry is a band based out of Massachusetts consisting of 2 members, Michelle Darossa, formerly of Straylight Run, and Tyler Odom, of Cassino.  Their sound includes a little bit of folk mixed in with some 60s era pop.  Sharing vocals, they are able to blend male/female voices into beautiful harmonies, with each taking lead over vocals when appropriate.  I suggest "Never Let You Go" and "This Island" be your first listens to get a general idea of their sound.

What a Man Wears: Army Green

If you've been a reader for even the last week, you know I have this super sweet boyfriend named Brian.  This super sweet Brian really knows how to dress.  I mean he gets into it, and he understands this whole style deal.  He doesn't really love to have his picture taken, but somehow I am always able to talk him into outfit photos.  Here's one from about a week ago.

Outfit Details:
jacket- Steve & Barry's forever ago
sweatshirt- Target
shirt & jeans- Old Navy (their skinny jeans are my favorites on him)
shoes- Urban Outfitters

He's usually my best accessory :)

Tuesday Tunes- Bon Iver

Okay it's Wednesday, but on Tuesday Brian and I were driving a 10 hour drive home, so we're a day late.  On the way to Springfield we turned the latest Bon Iver album, Bon Iver up really loud and just sang at the top of our lungs, drummed on our knees and steering wheel, and just soaked it all in.  Then when he won some Grammy's on Sunday it only seemed too perfect to feature him this week.

Most of his music is so complex and layered that the first time you hear it you may not love it, but it grows on you and you notice how beautifully complex it is.  I listen to the newest album all the way through, at least once a week.  For me he's one of those musicians that make everything feel as it should... especially when his music is turned all the way up in the car, and you're just soaking it in with your Valentine.

Outfit: A Beautiful Mess Locket

Let's talk about Red Velvet for a minute.  Within a few weeks time Rachel and Missy will both be relocating much farther away than Missouri, so this weekend Brian and I are visiting Springfield to wish both of them luck in their new adventures.  I cannot believe it has been so long since I moved home, and my visit feels overdue!  Every time I hear Arcade Fire or Camera Obscura I get all sentimental and miss my Springfield friends and the sewing studio in the back of the shop.  Mostly the bubble tea though ;).  Kidding.  That's all kind of a side-note to this post however.

What this post is about is the A Beautiful Mess Necklace that Elsie sent me for Christmas!  I wear it all the time, so I figured last weekend that I needed to document how much I love it.  Then Brian's sister, Madison, decided that she wanted to document how much she loves it as well!

I totally love that her 2 front, bottom teeth have fallen out.  She even wore the necklace out to dinner that night.  So cute!     Love, Mallory

Tuesday Tunes- Vacationer

Vacationer is a band based out Philadelphia. Not much information has been released about who or how many members there are. There is one distinct presence in the band and that's the vocalist, Kenny Vasoli, of the retired pop/punk band, The Starting Line. The band just released a 3 song EP titled Gone at the end of last month. It's a nice transition from Kenny's early years, and I'm excited to see if they'll continue pursuing this dreamy direction.

CFDA- day 2

Yep. This is my day until Brian gets off work.

CFDA update!

I took today and tomorrow off of work so I could finally get going (again) on my cfda project. I decided after some floundering, my designs just needed an edge not a total scrapping. Mostly for my sanity & time management. Here's where I stand at this very moment!

Back to work I go!

Books- A trio

On Sunday, for the first time in a long time, I cozied up in bed with some great books.  It was exactly what I needed!  For Christmas I received Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers from Lauren, and How to Set Up and Run a Fashion Label from my mom.  I've been reading the one about running a fashion label off and on alongside a notebook since Christmas day, and I tend to flip through the illustration book whenever I get a spare moment.

So this story is actually about the Hunger Games.  Sunday morning I saw a movie with my sisters and mom and a Hunger Games preview preceded it.  They have all read the books and begged me to as well, but I always felt too busy.  Now I finally have a bit of free time in life and I thought the preview was awesome enough to start reading this trilogy.  Basically the story ends with me staying in bed until I  finished the book.  I know I'm late on the band wagon but the The Hunger Games Trilogy truly is fantastic.  I blew through the pages faster than I have any book other than Harry Potter.  Go read it now.

xo (from my cave where I'm about the start the second Hunger Games book), Mallory :)
